Headed off to a morning full of wildlife. First I had to swerve to miss a bunny rabbit, then a turtle. While taking one of the many short off shoots off the new Route 66 onto the original road we were chased by a couple of dogs. The best was having to come to a quick slow down to accommodate the slow moving peacock crossing the road.
Into Warwick OK we stopped at the Seba Station, an old gas station/garage that is now a motorcycle museum. A '79 Bonneville still in its crate, '66 Matchless, '25 AJS and tons of other amazing bikes.
We took nice coffee break as the skies started to sprinkle and temperature dropped, then off again riding on the 'original' route with farm land between us and a visible Route 40 on our left. 55-60 MPH with winds pushing us around, it's no wonder we soon came across an energy wind field. Googling it it appears about 15% of Oklahoma's energy is from wind.
We took another break, and when I headed into the gas station for a 'break' I came back out to find Tracy's bike on the ground. Her side stand that we planned on taking a look at tonight had snapped. Without even asking a wonderful man came over with a tool bag in his hands to help out. We got the stand 'on' so we could ride, and then headed 10 miles in Clinton and to Jones Motorcycle Co., a custom chopper place. He stopped everything and took the bike in and started drilling and such to get the stand not only working, but more stable than is was before.
That job done, we made it to the Route 66 museum with time to spare. Lots of great old photos and a movie with the history of the road and the times.
Settled now in a Ramada with a wonderful steak house and wine that was walking distance. Off to Amarillo TX tomorrow!
